Motion Number: S5M-09226
Lodged By: Margaret Mitchell
Date Lodged: 28/11/2017

Title: Larkhall YMCA

Motion Text:
That the Parliament congratulates Larkhall YMCA on the 120th anniversary of its establishment in 1897; understands that Larkhall YMCA Harriers formally came into being in September 1931, thanks to John Scott of Hamilton Harriers; recognises that the club has provided a healthy outlet for successive generations from Larkhall and the surrounding areas, with the age profile of 100-strong membership ranging from 9 to 75; appreciates that the members have over the years become increasingly involved in maintaining the YMCA’s presence in the town; acknowledges the efforts of the coaches, past and present in nurturing the members, who have performed with distinction at district, inter-district, Scottish, British and international levels, with three international athletes and approaching 100 national medals, and wishes the club well as it looks for a location for a running track in the town.
