Shining Stars at theatre school in Coatbridge!

Aug. 30th 2017

Margaret Mitchell MSP was pleased to visit Shining Stars ASN Theatre School in Coatbridge where she spoke to Katie Slavin – the founder – her army of volunteers, and the members of the group.

Margaret learned that the theatre school is the only organisation in North Lanarkshire which is Makaton friendly – a method of communication using signs and symbols, used by some members of the group.

The group meets every Monday and Wednesday, and has a music festival planned for September, and a trip to London to see ‘Wicked’ in October.

Central Scotland MSP Margaret Mitchell said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my Monday evening visit to the theatre school where I witnessed the brilliant work undertaken by Katie and the volunteers involved.

“It was particularly uplifting to see how much fun the members of the group were having – as were the volunteers!

“Without doubt, the school provides invaluable support for and builds the confidence of, the members of all ages with varied special needs.

“It is entirely due to the dedication of Katie Slavin and her volunteers, who put so much into ensuring these evenings are a success, that the members gain such positive benefits from attending.”
